Beliefs

Photo captured at The Wonder of Learning Exhibit by Reggio Emilia that travelled to Toronto.

I am strongly inspired by the early childhood approach from Reggio Emilia, Italy.  I too believe that all children are capable of learning and should be treated as active citizens from birth.  If we view children in this way, then it changes everything!  It influences how we interact with them, how we design their learning spaces, what materials we invite them to explore, what topics we might pursue, and what we think they can achieve.

My son was born very alert, curious, and ready to engage with his new world.  With each day, week, and month, he has made it very clear that he is a capable learner.  Similar to my role in the classroom, I see every encounter with a child as an opportunity to explore possibilities and create lasting relationships.  I am, therefore, a facilitator and partner in inquiry.  My goal is to continue to research the research (inquiry project work - emergent curriculum) of these intelligent young minds and to remind myself of how fortunate I am to learn from them!

Children are our best teachers!
